New Connections Bi-Annual Symposium 2018
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation New Connections program is excited to announce that its Bi-Annual Symposium will be held in Philadelphia, PA on January 31, 2018 and February 1, 2018. The Symposium aims to increase the visibility and enhance the skills of New Connections grantees, network members, and potential grant applicants. New Connections scholars are early-career researchers from historically underrepresented groups.
As always, RWJF supports scholarship in public health, psychology, social work, and other allied social and health sciences. And as the Foundation builds its vision for a Culture of Health, it also welcomes participation from scholars in fields outside of the traditional health/healthcare and social science disciplines. These fields include: urban planning and architecture, business administration, economics and engineering. The theme for our Bi-Annual Symposium is From Research to Action: Taking Your Research Beyond the Journal
During this Symposium, we will explore how researchers can translate their research into broader impact in the communities they are studying, and the fields in which they specialize. Scholars Will learn how they can draw from their research to design a cogent and compelling story about their work – and outcomes – that can resonate with key audiences. We will discuss different platforms for sharing these narratives, and delve into how New Connections scholars can best prepare professionally for this objective. The Symposium will also serve as a forum for early-career researchers to network, share research ideas and hear from senior researchers. The Symposium agenda includes a variety of scientific and professional development sessions, an RWJF information session, and sessions featuring New Connections grantees/alumni.
Participation in the Symposium is by invitation only with priority given to those who have not previously participated in a New Connections major training event. Applications will be accepted until 9:00 am ET on Monday, December 11, 2017. Symposium applicants will receive notification of their application status by Wednesday, December 13, 2017. A travel stipend to cover expenses related to the meeting (with a capped limit) will be provided to those invited to participate.
