Webinar Recording: Dealing with Microaggressions in the Academy and Professional Life
Microaggressions are defined as brief and commonplace daily verbal, behavioral, or environmental indignities, whether intentional or unintentional, that communicate hostile, derogatory, or negative slights and insults, particularly towards individuals of oppressed groups. These groups include people of color, women, lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people, religious minority groups, and persons with disabilities. Microaggressions are often unconscious by the perpetrators and have been found to have a detrimental impact on mental health of their recipients.
During this webinar, New Connections alum and expert on microaggressions Dr. Kevin Nadal discussed the ways that microaggressions may manifest in everyday life, especially in the academy. Participants learned about different types of microaggressions and attained skills to deal with microaggressions effectively. You can listen to the recording of the webinar here.
