New Connections to Hold Regional Meeting in Chicago
Investing in historically underrepresented minority (URM) scholars and professionals yields culturally responsive practices and has an impact on the field of health and health care. However, scholars of diverse racial and ethnic background are underrepresented in the academy and professional sectors. Thus, the New Connections program will host a Regional Meeting in collaboration with the University of Illinois at Chicago to increase awareness around institutional and organizational barriers that hinder the professional advancement and success of URM professionals. The meeting will gather senior scholars, administrators, and leaders working at institutions of higher education and the social sector to: (1) share best practices for developing URM professionals; and, (2) discuss action-oriented solutions for establishing the necessary infrastructures to support URM professionals. As a secondary goal, this meeting will identify institutional and organizational champions building partnerships to foster supportive infrastructures for URMs.
