2014 Symposium Application

New Connections is excited to announce its Eighth Annual Symposium, June 11-13, 2014, in Princeton New Jersey. The Symposium aims to increase the visibility and enhance the skill sets of New Connections grantees and potential applicants. Applicants to New Connections are early to midcareer researchers from historically underrepresented groups.

The New Connections Eighth Annual Symposium will begin on Wednesday, June 11, with registration and opening reception at the Princeton Marriott at Forestal Hotel and conclude at the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation on Friday afternoon, June 13.

The Symposium will serve as a forum for early and midcareer researchers to network, share research ideas and hear from senior researchers and mentors. Co-chairpersons for this year’s Symposium are Ruth Enid Zambrana, PhD, Professor of Women’s Studies at the University of Maryland, College Park , Director, Consortium on Race, Gender, and Ethnicity, and ADVANCE Program Fellow, and Margarita Alegria, PhD, Director of the Center for Multicultural Mental Health Research at the Cambridge Health Alliance and Professor of Psychology at the Harvard Medical School.

The Symposium will feature an address from Drs. Alegria and Zambrana entitled “Career Paths, the Visible and Invisible Politics of Moving Forward” and include a variety of scientific and professional development sessions, a RWJF programming information session, a poster session featuring New Connections grantees/alumni, and an Awards Recognition ceremony. On Thursday evening, June 12, a networking reception and “Speed Mentoring” event will be held where select Symposium participants will be able to consult with senior researchers on various topics.

Participation in the Symposium is by invitation only with priority given to those not having the opportunity to participate in a New Connections major training event. All applicants will be notified of their application status by Friday, May 16, 2014.
